Australian judo player Daniel Kelly will leave his fourth Olympic Games still searching for a win after being defeated by Artem Bloshenko in the first round of the under 100kg division.
Kelly lost after he was penalised three times for non-combativity, or being too passive, against the No.19 seed Bloshenko at the ExCeL Arena on Thursday.
The 34-year-old from Melbourne struggled to get a strong grip on the left-handed Ukrainian, who managed to keep Kelly at bay thanks to some good defensive work during the five-minute contest.
It continues a string of losses for Kelly that started at Sydney 2000 and continued at the Athens and Beijing Olympics.
Australia's last judo player at the London Olympics takes to the mat on Friday when 22-year-old Jake Andrewartha lines up in the greater than 100kg division.
