The Olympic dream is all but over for Australian badminton duo Glenn Warfe and Ross Smith after they lost their second straight opening round match.
The Beijing Olympians drew a tough pool with China, Taiwan and Germany, three of the greatest badminton countries on the planet.
In their first match against gold-medal contenders China, the Australians went down 21-11/21-17.
They then suffered a second defeat on Sunday morning at the hands of ninth-seeded Taiwan, who won 21-14/21-13.
Australia next face Germany on Monday, but with only the top two pairs going through to the knockout phase it's game over for Warfe and Smith.
The Australian women also had a difficult first match against Indonesia but managed to hold on for three sets before going down 21-11/20-22/21-13.
But Leanne Choo and Renuga Veeran, ranked 36 worldwide, will enter the favourites in their next match against South Africa, before coming face to face with superstars South Korea.
