Cooke questions 'crazy' Tour stage tactics
13:19 AEST Sat Jul 21 2012

Australian Baden Cooke has revealed some cyclists came to blows during a hectic stage 18 in the Tour de France.

The Orica-GreenEDGE rider questioned the tactics of some teams as they desperately tried to score a stage win ahead of Sunday's Parish finish.

Orica-GreenEDGE are among 14 of the 22 teams yet to win a stage in this year's Tour.

British sprint ace Mark Cavendish won the stage, giving Sky their fourth of the Tour, as Orica-GreenEDGE sprinter Matt Goss finished second.

"Wow what a crazy stage - tensions were high, a couple of punch ups," Cooke tweeted.

"(There were) some bizarre tactics from teams chasing their last chance.

"Some (team) directors forget pretty quickly how hard the sport is and just flog their riders for no apparent reason.

"Lucky this is not the case for us."

Cooke will again be working for teammate Matt Goss in Sunday's stage, which will most likely end with a bunch sprint.
