Angry Port Adelaide have slammed Geelong for approaching their star AFL midfielder Travis Boak.

Geelong coach Chris Scott and skipper Joel Selwood were among key Cats personnel who made a brazen trip to Adelaide on Sunday to meet with the sought-after 23-year-old.

Boak comes out of contract at the end of this season.

Geelong have made no secret they want to lure Boak back to the Victorian surf coast region where he grew up and his family still live.

Port Adelaide chief executive officer Keith Thomas has come out fighting on Monday, indicating the Power's fury with the Cats contingent's visit.

"If (Port coach) Matthew Primus, (skipper) Domenic Cassisi and Travis Boak were to bowl into Geelong to meet with Joel Selwood, I am sure (Geelong chief executive) Brian Cook, his players and supporters would feel more than a little disrespected," Thomas said.

"Subtle conversations are one thing, but arriving with shiny buttons and a brass band is quite a different matter.

"We will keep talking to Travis and we remain very comfortable with where our discussions with him are placed."

Boak has been heavily tipped to leave Port to return closer to home next season.

The Cats are the club based nearest to Boak's family, and he is a former Geelong Falcons junior.

Primus said last week Boak had yet to make a decision whether to stay next season after the club had approached him for a firm answer about his intentions.

"The elephant got pushed out of the room and we asked him," Primus said.

"And he just told us exactly what he has been telling us all the time - he's still umming and ahhing about it with the family and he'll let us know as soon as he's ready.

"The longer the season goes on, the more important the decision will be for us."

Port have indicated they want Boak to make his mind up before the end of the season.
