Eagles play to win every AFL game: Glass

West Coast skipper Darren Glass has scoffed at claims Eagles fans want the club to lose AFL games.

West Coast skipper Darren Glass has scoffed at suggestions Eagles fans secretly want the club to lose their remaining games of the AFL season in order to snare a priority draft pick.

While Melbourne great Gary Lyon has suggested it would not be in the Demons' long-term interests to win more than four games this year, Glass said the thinking was different at West Coast.

The Eagles posted a club-worst 4-18 record last year and have won just four games so far this season.

The next draft is the final one before the new Gold Coast club will get a huge number of picks ahead of their entry into the league.

One more win would deny the Eagles a priority draft selection but Glass said the club wanted nothing more than to win Saturday's western derby clash with Fremantle.

"I haven't heard supporters of West Coast say that (we would be better off to lose) and I'd be very surprised if they do," Glass said on Monday.

"It doesn't bother me.

"I know the character of this football club (and) that's certainly not in the players' minds at all."

As for Lyon's comments that the Demons, who are also in line for a priority selection, may miss out on a "potential superstar" should they win more than four games this year, Glass said: "That might be a reflection of Gary Lyon's character but it is not the way West Coast does things.

"We play to win every game. We're about constant improvement and the best way to breed success is to win."

West Coast's 36-point loss to Port Adelaide on Sunday was their 19th straight interstate defeat.

And with their remaining two away games of the season against the Western Bulldogs and Adelaide, the Eagles are in grave danger of equalling Sydney's horror stretch of 21 consecutive away losses set between 1992-94.

"We want to improve our form home and away," Glass said when asked about the looming record.

"So that's the real focus for us this week, making sure we play our best football.

"Then next road game, we attack it again looking for a win."

But even this week's Subiaco Oval fixture will give the Eagles little respite, with Fremantle having won six of the past seven derbies, including four on the trot.

Star West Coast pair Dean Cox and Daniel Kerr are almost certain to miss the game as they continue to nurse groin injuries.

But Fremantle could welcome back Aaron Sandilands, Matthew Pavlich, Byron Schammer and Des Headland from injury, while Chris Tarrant is also expected to front up despite suffering a minor knee injury last week.
