Green Moon vying for Melbourne Cup spot

Owner Lloyd Williams has advised stewards Caulfield Cup runner-up Green Moon will race in a forward position in Saturday's Lexus Stakes in a last-ditch attempt to earn a place in the Melbourne Cup.

The winner of the Lexus is exempt from a ballot on Tuesday's Cup and Green Moon must win to force is way into the field.

He is one 11 Lexus runners still in Cup contention but outside of the top 24 on the order of entry list.

Others are Moyenne Corniche, Niwot, Spechenka, Showcause, Macedonian, Galizani, Anudjawun, Raffaello, Midnight Martini and Reprisal.

Gai Waterhouse scratched Tullamore from the Lexus on Friday after he was virtually assured of a start in the Melbourne Cup.

Tullamore, who finished third to Southern Speed in the Caulfield Cup, is now 23rd in order of entry after Linton was withdrawn from the Saturday's Mackinnon Stakes and the Cup.

The Verminator makes up the top 24 and will run in Saturday's Mackinnon Stakes (2000m).

The Mackinnon winner is exempt from the Melbourne Cup ballot but all Cup contenders in the Mackinnon are in the Cup field as it stands.
