Geelong coach Mark Thompson has signed a new deal to remain as coach of the AFL club for the next two seasons.

Thompson guided the Cats to the 2007 premiership and has overseen 134 wins from 222 games since being appointed at the end of the 1999 season.

That is more wins than any other club over the same period and includes 54 victories from the club's past 57 matches ahead of Sunday's clash with Port Adelaide at Skilled Stadium.

Both the coach and club said there had never been any doubt he would stay on.

"There was never any question of me not being here, so the contract simply formalises the arrangements we have had over the past decade," Thompson said.

"Like everyone associated with the club, I love working here with the staff and players that we have, and I'm looking forward to the rest of the season and the future."

Geelong chief executive Brian Cook said the club was thrilled to have Thompson locked in to at least the end of the 2011 season.

"Mark's record speaks for itself," Cook said.

"It's not only the fact that we are winning, but Mark has led an outstanding development of our playing list, created an attractive and dynamic game style and set the team up for long term success."

Thompson's new deal means of seven coaches who started the season uncontracted beyond this year, only three remain with uncertain futures.

They are Port Adelaide's Mark Williams, who is expected to sign a new deal early this week, as well as Collingwood's Mick Malthouse and the Western Bulldogs' Rodney Eade, who are both also expected to stay on.

West Coast's John Worsfold signed a new two-year deal on Friday, while Richmond's Terry Wallace and North Melbourne's Dean Laidley have both departed.
