17:15 AEST Thu May 5 2011

Australia have won two gold medals at the para-cycling road world cup in Sydney.

Sue Powell took out the women's 53.7km C4 road race ahead of teammate Alexandra Green, while Carol Cook won the women's tricycle road race.

The results boost their chances of qualifying for next year's Paralympics in London.

"I'm very happy with the way I rode," said Powell.

Australia won three minor medals on the opening day at Sydney's Eastern Creek Raceway on Wednesday.

Victorian Michael Gallagher claimed silver in the 70.3km men's C5, Tasmanian Ryan Hughes was third in the C4 event and West Australian Nigel Barley won bronze in the H3 hand cycling.
